Physiotherapy at Your Door, Across the North West Coast

Physio to Home, Tasmania-Wide | Last reviewed: July 2026
Devonport and Burnie anchor Tasmania's North West Coast — Devonport home to the Spirit of Tasmania terminal and around 27,000 people on the Mersey River, Burnie a working port city of around 20,000 people some 47 km further west along the Bass Highway. Between and around them sit Ulverstone, Wynyard, Penguin, Somerset, Latrobe and Port Sorell — a string of coastal and farming communities where the nearest physiotherapy clinic can still mean a real trip, particularly for anyone without easy access to a car during the day.
Physio to Home closes that gap. One of our AHPRA-registered physiotherapists comes to you, wherever you are along the coast, and treats you in your own home rather than asking you to come to us.
The Access Problem Along the Coast
Consistency matters more in physiotherapy than in almost any other area of healthcare — a program interrupted every few weeks because a lift into Burnie or Devonport fell through simply doesn't produce the same results as one delivered reliably, on schedule, at home. That inconsistency has historically been the norm rather than the exception for many North West Coast residents, particularly older people no longer confident driving, and anyone in the smaller towns further from the two hospitals — Mersey Community Hospital in Latrobe and North West Regional Hospital in Burnie — that anchor care in the region.
When your physiotherapist comes to you, treatment happens in your actual home — its actual stairs, flooring and layout — which makes it both more convenient and more clinically useful than a generic clinic setup.
Who We Support on the North West Coast
- Older residents across Devonport, Burnie, Ulverstone and surrounding towns managing falls risk, osteoarthritis, or general deconditioning
- Farmers and rural workers managing chronic musculoskeletal strain, often reluctant to lose half a day for a clinic appointment
- Post-surgical patients in the early recovery weeks after discharge from Mersey Community Hospital or North West Regional Hospital, when driving is restricted
- People with neurological conditions, including Parkinson's disease and stroke recovery
- NDIS participants and My Aged Care recipients across the North West Coast
What We Treat
Presentations we commonly manage on the North West Coast include lower back pain, hip and knee osteoarthritis, falls prevention and balance retraining, post-surgical rehabilitation after hip or knee replacement, stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson's disease management, and general strength and mobility work for older adults living independently — including on rural and farming properties, where uneven ground and long distances between buildings add their own physical demands.
Towns and Localities We Cover
From Devonport and Burnie, our team also regularly visits Ulverstone, Wynyard, Penguin, Somerset, Smithton, Sheffield, Latrobe, and Port Sorell. If your address is nearby and you're unsure whether it's within range, contact us and we'll confirm.
Funding Options
Medicare GP Management Plan — up to five partially subsidised visits per year for a chronic condition, arranged through your GP.
My Aged Care — Home Care Package or CHSP — physiotherapy is a covered allied health service; we work directly with care coordinators to arrange funded visits.
NDIS — physiotherapy funded under Improved Daily Living or Improved Health and Wellbeing for eligible participants.
Private health insurance — most extras policies cover home visits, with HICAPS claims processed on the day.
Private self-funding — direct payment without insurance or a funded plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far will a physiotherapist travel along the coast?
Our North West Coast service covers Devonport, Burnie and the towns between and around them, including Ulverstone, Wynyard and Latrobe. If you're further out — Smithton or Sheffield, for example — contact us and we'll assess coverage for your address.
Can home physiotherapy work for someone living on a farm property?
Yes, and it's often more useful than clinic-based care in that setting. We assess you in the actual environment you're navigating day to day — sheds, uneven ground, steps and all — which lets us build a program around your real physical demands, not a generic one.
Do I need a referral to book?
No referral is required for a private booking. If you're funding visits through Medicare, My Aged Care, or NDIS, a referral or care plan may be part of that process, but you're welcome to contact us directly regardless.
How soon can I be seen?
As we grow our coverage across the North West Coast, availability can vary a little by town. Let us know your situation — including if it's urgent, such as a recent fall or hospital discharge — and we'll confirm the fastest option for your area.
